Solid or Field Tiles:
A solid color tile is a tile of one predominant color (up to 400 colors available). Solid tiles also include textured tiles (sponged, marbled, crackled or stoned). Solid tiles are usually the majority (field tile) used in an installation. These are the regular 4x4 or 6x6 tile that are usually one color and can be in various textures to include; solid, sponges, washed etc.

Individual Tiles (also known as "inserts"):
An individual tile will have an image (flower, fruit, vegetable, figure, etc.) which can stand alone. Individual tiles provide an accent to an installation usually picking up color from the surroundings. An individual tile can have plain or deco corners.

Corner Deco Tiles:
These are the 4x4 or 6x6 flat tile with little designs in the corners. also known as corners.

Border Tiles:
Border tiles are slender tiles which are used to outline a tile installation. Border tiles come in flat and relief, and are used for highlighting an installation and contain a repetitive pattern which coordinate with the entire installation. As border tiles are commonly found on the perimeters of installations, they are frequently bullnosed. These are usually 2x6, 3x6, 4x8 outliner trims (borders) that highlight (outline) an installation.
Note: there are usually bullnose specifications regarding border tiles and the "corners" of the border have to be specified.

Corner Tiles:
These are usually 2x2, 3x3, 4x4 corners that highlight (outline) an installation.
Note: there are usually bullnose specifications regarding corner tiles and must be specified.

Relief Tiles:
Sometimes an individual tile comes in relief. A relief tile is a pressed tile which shows a design in three dimensions. Usually inserted with field tile or used as a border.
Note: there are usually bullnose specifications regarding border tiles and the "corners" of the border have to be specified.

These are usually relief pieces ranging in size from 2" x 6" to 4" x 8" inch trim pieces.

Pattern Tiles:
Pattern tile will boast a geometric pattern (Moroccan, Tunisian, Spanish, Italian or Mexican) which are usually interlocking and repetitive. Pattern tiles are usually used for trims (pools, wainscots, etc.) and are sometimes used as inserts These come with the entire pattern in one tile, or a "quarter pattern" where it requires 4 tiles to complete the pattern.

Simple criss-cross is $12.00 for example and a complex Moroccan is $18.00 |

Mural Tiles:
Mural tiles are a group of tiles which when placed together form a picture (basket of fruit, wine bottle and glasses, seascape etc.). Murals can range from entire walls involving thousands of tiles to kitchen backsplash inserts encompassing only two tiles, usually in multiples of 4x4 and 6x6 tiles.

Simple Appliqué" Tiles:
A ceramic relief tile shaped according to the article it portrays and installed over an existing tile or other substrate. Appliqué tile are a retro fit.
